Allocation models encode institutional values whether or not anyone intends them to. This session examines what common models reward, and where those incentives diverge from stated commitments to student success.
We compare incremental, responsibility-centered, and mission-weighted approaches, focusing less on their theoretical merits than on the behavior each one produces in deans and department chairs.
The practical work is in the adjustments: completion-weighted factors, protected funding for gateway course support, and review cycles frequent enough to correct distortions before they compound.
Participants leave with a worksheet for auditing their own model against a small set of outcome measures their institution already collects.
